Harris County Celebrates One Millionth webDEALER Customer

Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan is proud to announce that Harris County has processed the one millionth customer through the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) webDEALER program.

“Two years ago, the TxDMV launched webDEALER, a new program to process titles faster and safer in a web-based paperless system for auto dealers,” said Sullivan. “After training more than 148 franchise auto dealers, we’ve cut down processing times from three weeks, to three days and are now celebrating processing the one millionth customer!”

Auto dealers across the state are required to process titles for vehicles sold. It involves transferring the buyer’s information, vehicle information, and fees from the dealer to the county office.

“The old method was antiquated, involved much paperwork and took too long to properly assist customers. My office worked diligently with the TxDMV because we knew this program would make processing titles for dealers easier, payment of fees faster and create a paperless electronic system that would benefit everyone,” said Sullivan.

Prior to webDEALER, auto dealers were required to submit hard copy title applications and supporting documents with fees paid by a paper check. If the amount on the check was incorrect, the tax office would not be able to process the transaction and the auto dealer would have to resubmit payment information. Thanks to webDEALER, after the auto dealer submits the information, payment is automatic via ACH.

“Faster payments mean faster processing times. In government, the public expects us to do more with less and we’re doing just that with webDEALER,” said Sullivan. “With improvements like these, we’re able to provide the best customer service possible to more customers.”
