(Harris County) – Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Mike Sullivan announced today that Harris County will update the voter registration roll, as required by state and federal law.
“This year we have registered a record number of voters. My job is to make sure the voter rolls are accurate and up-to-date,” said Mr. Sullivan. “The law requires us to remove individuals who have been on the suspense list for at least two years.”
According to the Texas Election Code, if a voter has been on the suspense list and has not voted for two federal elections or has not updated their address, they are removed from the voter roll. This action is taken every even-numbered year. This year, approximately 84,688 individuals will be removed.
Voters may check their voter registration status, update their name or address and learn how to register to vote at www.hctax.net.
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan also serves as the Harris County Voter Registrar, who conducts voter registrations activities, maintains voter registration records and prepares a certified list of registered voters for each precinct. Learn more by visiting www.hctax.net.
