FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 27, 2017
Houston, TX – The Harris County Tax Office is now offering an all-Spanish volunteer deputy voter registrar training. This is the first ever in Harris County, and one of only a handful of training courses offered solely in Spanish in the entire state. It is scheduled for June 29, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Leonel Castillo Community Center, in partnership with BakerRipley, formerly Neighborhood Centers, Inc.
“Our volunteer deputies are the backbone of voter outreach and engagement,” said Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett. “I am so pleased to offer a deputization training in Spanish to my constituents. Not only will this help Harris County register even more voters, it ensures better compliance with registration laws. Our goal is to reach every eligible voter in the county, and providing a Spanish training is one more step in that direction. I am proud of our efforts to provide training in multiple languages and reach an entirely new audience of eager volunteers.”
Trainings are open to the public. RSVP at www.hctax.net /voter/deputy and receive your VDVR certification card immediately after the ceremony.
