Mike Sullivan Teaming with High Schools to Register Voters

Voter Registrar works to educate and register high school seniors to vote

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Mike Sullivan and his staff are launching an initiative in high schools across the county to help educate students about voter registration and their rights.

"This is an exciting partnership to help reach out to local high school seniors, educate them of the electoral process and help them register to vote," said Mike Sullivan. “My goal is to work with all school districts in Harris County and continue this innovation every year.”

Sullivan's staff spent the last week working in Aldine Independent School District (AISD) high schools speaking with high school seniors and helping them register to vote.

“I am very excited to be able to register to vote this year,” said Zahely Estrada, Senior at Aldine High School. “Voting is your voice and I’m excited to be able to choose the leaders who are going to represent our city and country.”

“Our department works tirelessly to register voters, from local organizations, community groups and neighborhood leaders,” said Amy Nguyen, Associate Director of Voter Registration. “This new outreach effort allows us to speak directly to students who are at least 17 years and 10 months old, the minimum age requirement to be eligible to register to vote. Our office works with the school to educate the students on voter registration, accept their voter registration applications and answer one-on-one questions.”

The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is open to working with all high schools to help register senior students to vote. Please contact Pamela Dora-Thomas at 713-274-8242 or Pamela.Dora-Thomas@tax.hctx.net

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan also serves as the Harris County Voter Registrar, who conducts voter registration activities and maintains a certified list of registered voters. Learn more about voter registration and the requirements by visiting www.hctax.net.
