Guidelines for Registration

Please Note:  If the Monday before tax sale is a holiday, online registration will close midnight on the Thursday before the sale.

You may pre-register online at www.hctax.net until midnight on the Sunday before the sale. Sale day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Access your bidder contact information on our website at www.hctax.net with your driver’s license or identification number. Please notify the Tax Office of any changes or deletions to your contact information via e-mail.

Sales may start as early as 10:00 a.m., regardless of whether or not bidders are registered. Sales will not be delayed for any bidder.

If you have previously registered to bid at a recent constables' sale, there is no need to re-register; just remember to bring your bidder card to the sale. If you are a new preregistered bidder, the “Will Call” table will have your bidder card ready for pickup at 8:30 a.m. The sale will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Who can bid at the sale?

  • Individuals can bid in their own name.
  • Married individuals can bid on behalf of themselves and their spouse.
  • Two individuals can buy together with a bidder number assigned to them jointly.
  • Individuals can bid in the name of a business entity if documentation is provided (see below).
  • Individuals can bid on behalf of other individuals only if they provide a valid Power of Attorney, and that Power of Attorney is in substantially similar form to the Power of Attorney used by the Texas Legislature for real estate transactions.

Required Documentation:
If you are bidding on behalf of a business entity as an employee or agent of a corporation, please bring documentation to show: (1) confirmation of the business, and (2) your authority to bid on behalf of that business. The following is a list of documents we accept, but others may be considered. For more information, please contact the Harris County Tax Office at 713-274-8120.

  • LLC’s and other corporations – (1) Corporate Resolution with corporate seal, (2) letter on corporate letterhead signed by an officer of the corporation, (3) Articles of Incorporation, or (4) Certificate of Incorporation.
  • LLP’s and other partnerships – Business document(s) establishing the business. Letter on business’ letterhead signed by a partner.
  • Real Estate Investment Trusts or other Trusts – Documents establishing the trust.
  • Joint Venture – Letter on Joint Venture letterhead or documents establishing the trust.
  • DBA certificate – DBA certificate or letter on entity’s letterhead.

Please note: Documentation must be provided before a Statement of Taxes can be issued. This may delay the filing of the deed if you do not present a copy of the documentation for our file. If you do not have the appropriate documents at the time of registration, please provide it to the Harris County Tax Office within 30 days of the sale or at the time you request your Statement of Taxes.
